Photographed at the height of the economic crisis in 2012, the series attempts to formulate its own rhetorical path, contradicting stereotypes of Greece as a tourist destination or troubled European Union State. Each image is qualified by its precursor, building a paradoxical sense of continuity and harmony. Contrary to media hype there are no simple or definitive answers here. The future of the nation state is not universally defined.

Citrus trees line many of the streets in the city of Athens promising reward for those who can reach their ripening fruit. Bite into any of these, though, and the illusion of sweetness is replaced by a sourness. A metaphor, perhaps, and a lingering sense that stories have narratives open to our own subjective, sometimes illogical, often unreliable threads.
